Relationships come in all types such as romantic, platonic, familial, and professional. Romantic relationships involve intimate connections with one another while platonic relationships are typically non-sexual friendships. Familial relationships are biological or legal ties between family members while professional relationships are typically based on work connections. These relationship types are relevant to the LGBTQ community as they also form these connections, but often face discrimination and heteronormativity. However, the LGBTQ community has continued to fight for equality and recognition of their relationships in society.
